Photo-Rejuvenation Treatment

What is skin Rejuvenation?

Rejuvenation is a non-invasive procedure designed to make your skin both feel and look younger and healthier. The treatment should decrease pore size, tighten the skin, remove superficial fine lines and wrinkles, clear some superficial pigmentation marks such as age/liver spots and change a dull complexion into a healthy glow.

How does IPL/Laser achieve rejuvenation?

Multi-wave length light is delivered in high energy pulses to reduce all three of the common signs of ageing, namely:

  1. Thread veins
  2. Pigmentation/sun spots, and also;
  3. Fine lines/wrinkles

How effective is it?

IPL is the best method to rejuvenate your appearance because it provides 3 different effects via a safe and convenient mode of action. Thus, after treatment your skin should feel more uniform, tightened with new collagen within the dermis, less wrinkles, less pigmentation and have a generally younger glow about it.

Is there any preparation involved?

For the very best results we suggest a deep cleanse followed by a microdermabrasion or skin peel prior to IPL treatment.

What about afterwards and are there any side-effects?

There may be mild redness or swelling, very rarely minor blistering or slight lightening/darkening of the skin. However, these changes are self-limiting and quickly resolve. In fact, most people experience no side-effects at all.

What is the after care?

The treated area will be cooled afterwards and a moisturising agent applied. You are strongly urged to use SPF 30 sun protection to protect the treated skin and also to prolong the benefits of your rejuvenation treatment.

Will I need more treatments in the future?

Top-up sessions are recommended every 4-6 months to maintain your new, youthful glow. However, the time between treatments can be lengthened if you adhere to the following advice: Cosmedix Reflect product

  1. Better Lifestyle such as less alcohol/caffeine, stopping smoking more exercise to increase blood flow to your skin, a better diet containing more anti-oxidants and skin vitamins/minerals etc are also all invaluable in reducing further skin ageing but, more importantly in protecting the money spent on rejuvenation therapies by prolonging their benefits. Thus, follow these simple measures and you will have to visit us less often and spend less money on skin treatments!

  2. Better Skin Care: To maintain the benefits of any rejuvenating treatments we strongly urge adequate moisturising combined with proper sun protection of your skin, e.g. Cosmedix reflect full spectrum SPF 30 spray.

Are there any other alternatives?

  1. Medical Peels, e.g. the Cosmedix Timeless or Blueberry Smoothie Peels or the Obagi Blue Peel. We have access to a wide range of both mild and also deeper peels designed for each particular skin type and complaint.

  2. Medical Microdermabrasion provides controlled mechanical exfoliation of dead skin cells for immediately younger, healthier looking skin with a smoother texture and reduction of fine lines. We offer both a simple exfoliating microdermabrasion and also one combined with a specific anti-ageing micro-lift to further firm and tone your skin. We would normally recommend a course of six sessions at weekly intervals but again this can be variable depending upon your particular issues.

  3. Medical Agents: Some topical drugs are useful for treating certain localised effects of ageing such actinic/solar keratoses. They are prescription-only and include:

    • 1.3% Diclofenac gel used twice daily for 2-3 months helps with mild, superficial actinic/solar keratoses.

    • 2.5% Fluorouracil cream used once daily for 3-4 weeks helps more severe actinic keratoses than Diclofenac gel but it produces a marked inflammatory reaction. Another such agent is 5% Imiquimod cream.

  4. Jane Iredale Mineral Make-Up is a light, hypo-allergenic way of concealing the signs of ageing if you are not yet ready for any our more definitive solutions suggested above.
